Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the chart’s subject and attempt an overall comparison between 1918 and 2011, noting that renting fell while ownership rose. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: by 2011 ownership had fallen from its 2001 peak, while renting had risen, so the figures do not show a continuous increase or decrease across the period. No intermediate data or key stages are reported, including the point in 1971 when the two categories were equal. The response also stops mid-sentence and contains only 50 words, well below the required 150, leaving the task minimally addressed. To improve, write a complete overview and support it with selected figures and comparisons from the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by a separate paragraph beginning “Overall,” which signals that a summary is coming. This gives the reader a simple starting structure. However, the response ends with the unfinished phrase “In this different year we can see,” so the ideas do not progress to a conclusion or any supporting details. The link between the two sentences is also unclear, and there are no comparisons arranged by period. Develop a clear sequence: introduce the chart, summarise the main trend, then group and compare the earlier and later years. Complete each sentence and use simple linking expressions to show how the figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “owned,” “rented accommodation,” and “household,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is very limited, and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “percentage of placement” does not describe the share of households, while “in this different year” is unclear. The spelling “comperasion” also weakens clarity. Use precise chart language such as “proportion,” “share,” “home ownership,” and “rental accommodation,” and vary verbs with “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “reached a peak.” This would make comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a simple present-tense introduction and an overall statement, but grammatical control is inconsistent. In “the rented accommodation are decreased,” the verb form and agreement are incorrect; a suitable structure would be “the proportion of households renting decreased.” Similarly, “the household owner are increased” has problems with number and verb form. The phrase “between the year 1918 to 2011” also uses an incorrect preposition pattern; write “between 1918 and 2011.” The unfinished final sentence prevents the reader from seeing a complete structure. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, then combine simple sentences with clear comparative clauses.
