Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two categories and describe the broad movement: ownership generally rises while renting generally falls, with a reversal at the end. However, the overview is not fully accurate because it calls rented accommodation the most dominant category throughout, although the two are equal at 50% in 1971 and ownership is higher from 1981 onward. Several figures and dates are also misreported: ownership is about 41% in 1961, not 59%, and renting is about 68% in 1939 and 1953, not 69% in 1939 and a stable period in 1935. The account also omits the ownership peak around 69% in 2001. Select the main turning points and report them accurately to make the summary more complete and clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate descriptions of the two categories. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is difficult to follow: the ownership paragraph jumps from 1939 to 1953 and then to 1961 without clearly linking the figures, while the renting paragraph gives 1961 and 1971 figures after discussing 2001. Connectors such as “whereas” are repeated and sometimes used in ways that make relationships unclear. Group the two series in chronological order, and use clear comparisons at key stages—for example, the point at which ownership and renting are equal—to create a more logical flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “stable,” “downward movement” and “increase,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “accommodations standout,” “marks the least households” and “gradually inclined.” These expressions make the trends less precise. Spelling errors, including “timpe,” “relativley” and “demonstartes,” also reduce clarity and control. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully; verbs such as “rose,” “remained stable,” “peaked” and “declined” can describe the data more naturally and precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use longer sentences and contrast, particularly in the overview, but complex structures are often faulty and many sentences contain errors. For example, “households in owned accommodation is 20%” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “In 1918, households in owned accommodation is 20% which also marked lowest” combines tenses and lacks clear sentence structure. The sentence beginning “In 1918 households in rented accommodation…” is also difficult to parse. Articles, plurals and punctuation are inconsistent. Use a reliable pattern such as “The proportion of households in owner-occupied homes was about 23% in 1918,” then keep past-tense verbs consistent when describing the chart.
