Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two categories and make a broad comparison between ownership and renting, including the general shift from renting being more common early on to ownership becoming more common later. However, the overview is unclear and several claims do not match the chart: renting is not at its lowest in 1981 or 2011, and ownership in 2011 is not at its highest; ownership peaks around 2001 before falling. The response also gives no accurate figures or clear account of the main stages, such as the equal 50% shares in 1971. Phrases such as “some categories show some fluctuations” are too vague to report the data effectively. Select the key turning points and support them with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to move from a general introduction to comparisons, using connectors such as “According to the chart” and “Furthermore.” However, the ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs, and the response does not develop a logical sequence from overview to specific trends. Several statements repeat the same point, especially the claims about 1918 and later years, while “Let’s have a look at the remaining information” promises details that never follow. Some linking words are used mechanically or do not clarify the relationship between ideas. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and a paragraph comparing the main changes over time; use references and transitions only where they help the reader follow the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “households,” “owned accommodation,” “rented accommodation,” and “increment” and “decrement.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “the household … is cheap” does not describe the percentage, and “activities” is not appropriate for chart data. Repetition of “chart,” “household,” and “high/low” also makes the account imprecise. Spelling errors such as “wales,” “addations,” “flauctuations,” and “Furthemore” further reduce control. Build a more precise vocabulary for trends and proportions, such as “the proportion of households,” “rose,” “declined,” “remained stable,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “The household in owned accommodation is cheap” has an unclear grammatical structure, while “This show a clear comparison” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “While 1981” lacks a complete, correctly formed comparison, and “the household owned in 2011 is also high” uses an incomplete structure. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, with several clauses joined without clear stops. Practise complete comparative sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, for example, “In 1981, 60% of households owned their homes, compared with 40% that rented.”
