Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the full period and report the central pattern: ownership rises from 23% to a peak of 69% in 2001, while renting generally falls before partly recovering by 2011. The comparison that the figures meet at 50% in 1971 is also a useful key feature. Most figures are close to the chart, although the 1918 rented share is 77%, not 78%, and the 2011 rented share is about 36%, not 35%. Your overview is relevant but could be more precise: it should state that ownership overtakes renting in 1981 and that the two trends reverse slightly in the final decade. Some details, such as the changes between individual years, are reported more fully than the overall pattern is explained.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by chronological details, with a paragraph break before the later years. Time markers such as “in 1918,” “similarly,” and “furthermore” help readers follow the sequence. However, the progression is often mechanical because nearly every sentence begins with a year or a linking expression, and the repeated “households owned” and “rented households” make the account feel list-like. Some connections are unclear, as in “which is almost half of initial year,” where the comparison is difficult to identify. Grouping the early decline in renting and the later ownership majority into clearer stages, and using more precise referencing, would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “increased,” “decreased,” “remained same,” and “highest,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “proposation of citizens,” “households owned,” “constantly increased,” and “decrement seen.” Spelling errors—including “yeat,” “innitial,” “onwned,” and “hightest”—also make the writing less clear and polished. Some words, such as “surprisingly” and “paradoxically,” add an evaluative tone that is not appropriate for a neutral chart summary. Aim for precise trend language and standard collocations, for example, “the proportion of households that owned their homes” and “ownership peaked.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine clauses using “while,” “which,” and “although”-type contrasts, and the reader can usually identify the intended comparisons. However, sentence structures are limited and many sentences contain errors in agreement, tense, articles, or sentence construction. For example, “the households owned was least” does not form a correct clause, while “households owned increased in 1961 which was 41%” attaches the figure unclearly. The opening sentence also lacks a well-formed main clause. These recurring problems sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise accurate patterns such as “The proportion of owner-occupied homes rose to 41% in 1961, while the rented share fell to 59%,” then vary these structures while checking subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
