The chart illustrates the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Initially, the percentage of owned and rented households was 22% and 77% in 1918 respectively.Whereas, both households proportion remained similar in 1939 and 1953 at about 32% and 68%.While in 1961,their share was 41 and 59%.Whereas in 1971, both household stood at similar percentage of 50%.
In 1981, their proportion stayed at 60% and 40%.Conversely, the share of rental and own houses was 32% and 68% in 1991 and 2001.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main contrast: ownership generally rises while renting declines, and you report several key stages, including the equal 50% shares in 1971 and the reversal in 2011. Most figures are close to the chart. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly mention the peak in ownership in 2001 followed by its fall, or the corresponding rise in renting by 2011. The final sentence also gives an incorrect starting year, saying the trend runs from 1998 rather than 1918. The response contains 135 words, below the required 150; 17 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop the overview and comparisons with accurate details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and a chronological account of the figures. This helps the reader follow the broad trend. However, progression is weakened by repetitive and sometimes inaccurate linking, especially the repeated use of “Whereas” and “Conversely.” Some sentences are fragments or are joined awkwardly, such as “Whereas in 1971, both household stood at similar percentage of 50%.” The final sentence repeats the overview rather than adding a clear concluding comparison. Use fewer, more precise transitions and group the data into meaningful phases—for example, the early years, the rise to 2001, and the change in 2011.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a chart, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “increased,” “declining trends” and “share.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main comparison, but the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “rented house number” does not accurately describe a percentage of households, and “both shared a proportion” is unclear. “Accomodation” is also misspelled, and “a increasing trend” uses the wrong form. Choose consistent terms such as “home ownership,” “renting” and “the proportion of households,” and use precise trend language to describe the 2001 peak and the subsequent reversal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including contrasts introduced by “In contrast” and “Whereas,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences contain faulty structures or punctuation, such as “Whereas, both households proportion remained similar” and “While in 1961,their share was 41 and 59%.” These openings are not properly connected to a main clause, and spacing after punctuation is often missing. There are also errors in number and agreement, as in “both household stood,” and in the final phrase “whose proportion showed a increasing trend.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check singular and plural forms, and punctuate clauses carefully. Simpler, accurate comparisons would improve clarity.
