Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the chart’s main contrast and give a clear overview: renting starts much higher, ownership rises, and the two figures meet in 1971. Most reported values are accurate, including 23% versus 78% in 1918, 32% versus 68% in 1939, and the equal 50% figures. You also note the ownership peak around 2001 and the reversal by 2011. This covers the task well, though some details are less fully reported: the long plateau from 1939 to 1953 and the gradual rise in ownership through 1991 are not described. The 2011 ownership figure is given as 65%, slightly above the chart’s approximate 64%, which is a minor discrepancy. A more precise overview and fuller account of the middle years would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of supporting figures. Its progression from the early years to the later period is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Additionally,” and “Conversely” help signal comparisons. The organisation is therefore coherent overall. However, some connections are mechanical or awkward, and the final paragraph combines several time points without a clear distinction between the 2001 peak and the 2011 decline. Punctuation also weakens flow, particularly the missing space after “32%.” and the comma at the end. Grouping the data into clearer stages and using more precise transitions would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “declined,” “rose,” “peak,” and “fall,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range and control are limited by repeated use of “household” and “accommodation,” as well as inaccurate or unnatural combinations such as “rented household was observed to declining” and “owned housed hold.” Several spelling errors—“accomoadation,” “accomadation,” “campared,” and “wheras”—are noticeable. Some word forms are also unsuitable, such as “proportionate” where “proportion” is needed. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and vary the terms for the two categories; this would make the description clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “While” and clauses introduced by “when” and “which.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “While people living in own houses were least but it rose dramatically” has an incomplete and conflicting structure, while “rented accommodation was accounted for nearly 78%” and “owned housed was seen rising of 32%” use incorrect verb patterns. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and tense, as in “both the accomodations were stood” and “owned household accommodation reaches its peak.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention too. Practise accurate comparative sentence frames and check each clause for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
