Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this chart we can see that how, with the passege of time people start living in owned accommodation. In 1918 only 22-23 percent people were living in owned accommodation and about 78 percent were living rented accommodation. And in 2011 about 64 percent housholds are owned accommodation and only 36-37 percent housholds was rented accommodation. this change was not come suddenly, housholds was shifting to own accommodation from rented accommodation slowly with passing the years, in 1939 owned accommadtion is slighly highly in percentage from previous data because in previous 1918 data the own accommodation is about 22 percent and in this it is about 31 percent. in that way the percentage of rented accommodation is falls in these years from about 78 percent to about 68 percent. after this the chart shows that from 1939 to 1953 the data is same. and then in 1961 again the owned accommation is become high and rented is fall. in 1971 the owned and rented percentage is same as 50-50 percent after this again we can see the difference in which own houshold accommodation percentage is increasing and rented is decreasing but in last 2011 again the chart show slighly oppsite movement in which the rented accommadtion is high than 2001 and own accommation percentage is become decrease.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s central pattern: ownership rises over time while renting generally falls, and you note the equal 50% shares in 1971 and the reversal in 2011. The opening and closing figures are also broadly accurate. However, the response does not give a clear, concise overview separate from the year-by-year account, and several important stages are only briefly described. For example, ownership reaches its peak at about 69% in 2001 before falling to 64% in 2011, while renting reaches its low of about 31% in 2001; these turning points could be stated more clearly. Some figures are imprecise, such as 1939 ownership at about 31% rather than 32%, but the main limitation is that the key features are not selected and summarised consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows the timeline from 1918 to 2011, so the reader can generally understand the sequence of changes. It also uses basic linking expressions such as “after this” and “in 1971.” However, the information is presented as one long paragraph, with no clear separation between an overview and supporting details. Connectors are repetitive, and some links make the progression awkward, as in “in that way” and “in which.” The repeated references to “after this” do not always clarify which period is being compared. Organise the response into a brief introduction and overview, followed by one or two paragraphs grouping the earlier and later trends; use precise comparisons to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “owned accommodation,” “rented accommodation,” “percentage,” “increasing,” and “decreasing,” which allows the main topic to remain understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated rather than varied. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, including “passege,” “housholds,” “accommadtion,” and “slighly.” Phrases such as “people start living in owned accommodation” and “the owned and rented percentage is same” are not natural ways to describe proportions in a chart. Use accurate terms such as “the proportion of households,” “home ownership,” and “the figures remained unchanged,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish a rise, a fall, a peak, and a plateau.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences to describe changes across several years, but these are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “we can see that how,” “this change was not come suddenly,” and “the owned and rented percentage is same,” which show problems with clause structure, verb forms, and agreement. Tense use also shifts between past and present, for example “were living” and “are owned accommodation.” Articles and plural forms are often missing or incorrect. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation need attention, particularly where a new sentence begins with lowercase “this.” Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with consistent past-tense reporting, then add a few accurate comparative clauses such as “while” or “whereas.”
