Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main contrast and describe the broad movement accurately: renting falls from about 77% to 31% by 2001, while ownership rises from 23% to a peak of 69%, before the two figures move back towards one another in 2011. The overview also captures the initial dominance of renting and the later rise in ownership. This is a relevant, well-supported response, though some details are unclear or imprecise: the opening refers only to 1918 and 2011, and the account skips several intermediate years. The claim that renting “began to dropped” by 2001 also obscures that its decline had been continuing for decades. To strengthen the report further, describe the plateau around 1939–1953 and the ownership peak more precisely, while keeping the overview focused on the full period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. The sequence from the starting figures to 1971 and then 2001–2011 is generally understandable, and phrases such as “In contrast” help signal comparison. However, some links are mechanical or confusing: “By contrasting, however” combines competing transitions, and repeated “Whereas” openings make the final paragraph choppy. “Both met with a similar margin in 1971” repeats the preceding comparison without adding much. Improve progression by grouping the figures into clear stages and using fewer, more precise linking expressions. Clearer references to which series is being discussed would also help the reader follow the comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of task-appropriate vocabulary, including “proportion,” “significant,” “declined,” and “accounted for,” and the main trends remain understandable. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which limits precision: “owning and renting shelter,” “made a constrating trend,” “made to the top,” and “encountered a slight declined margine” are not natural ways to describe chart data. There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “constrating,” “adn,” and “margine.” Prefer standard reporting language and use it consistently—for example, “the proportion of households,” “rose to,” “fell to,” and “reached a peak.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “while” and “despite,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “despite it has experienced” needs a different construction, such as “although it experienced,” while “the owned accommodation risen sharply” is missing an auxiliary verb. Tense and verb-form problems also appear in “rented residence had declined … and makes to the 50%” and “began to dropped.” The final sentence contains a faulty noun phrase in “a slight declined.” Work on consistent past-tense reporting, correct verb patterns after “began to,” and complete clauses. More accurate complex sentences would improve the report.
