Student answer (Band 5.0)
The supplied bar graph illustrates the proportion on households in terms of buying and renting accomodation in two countries England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apperant that renting accomodation was high ranked in the begning which dramatically decline by the time traver, while it was lowest in owned accomodation which significantly increased by the passage of time.
To commence with, it was recorded at 23% in 1918, while renting was around 78% in this year. Renting was remained constant at 68% from 1939 to 1953, and it is sufficiantly reduced till 2001. However, it was recorded at 355 in 2011.
households in owned accomodation, it was recorded near 22% in 1918. Although it was remained simillar at 31% from 1939 to 1953, it significantly rose up till 2011 and was almost 69%. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast: renting was more common at the beginning, while ownership generally rose, and you correctly note that the figures met at 50% in 1971. Several reported values are also close to the chart, including renting at 68% in 1939 and 1953. However, the overview is imprecise, and some key details are inaccurate or unclear: renting was about 36% in 2011, not “355,” while ownership peaked at about 69% in 2001 before falling to 64% in 2011. The statement that ownership “significantly rose up till 2011” misses this reversal. Develop a clearer overview and compare the turning points and end-of-period figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an opening overview to details about renting and ownership, and “However” and “Nevertheless” signal contrast. However, progression is difficult to follow because the two series are discussed separately without consistently comparing the same years, and the ownership paragraph contains a confusing sequence: it says ownership rose to almost 69% by 2011, then gives 64% for 2011. Some linking phrases are also used mechanically or do not clarify the relationship between ideas. Organise the body by stages or paired comparisons—for example, the shared 1971 figure, the 2001 peak in ownership, and the 2011 reversal—and use clear references to each series.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “constant,” “reduced,” and “increased,” so the reader can generally identify the topic and trends. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the account less clear, such as “apperant,” “begning,” “sufficiantly,” and “approxmatily.” Phrases such as “high ranked” and “by the time traver” are not natural ways to describe chart trends, while “buying” is less precise than “owning.” Aim for accurate, conventional language for data description, such as “accounted for,” “remained stable,” “declined,” and “reached a peak.” Check spelling carefully, especially in repeated key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a concession beginning “Although.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships or figures hard to interpret. Examples include “the proportion on households,” “Renting was remained constant,” and the fragment “households in owned accomodation, it was recorded near 22%.” Tense and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “it is sufficiantly reduced” within a past-period description and “both renting and owing was recorded.” Use consistent past-tense reporting, form clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your comparisons easier to understand.
