Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several important features: renting falls from about 76% in 1918 to its low in 2001, ownership rises to a peak in 2001, and the two figures meet at 50% in 1971. The 2011 figures are also broadly accurate. However, the overview is weakened by saying ownership increased “year by year”; it actually remained level between 1939 and 1953 and declined after 2001. The response also contains only 138 words, below the required 150, so the account is underdeveloped. Add a little more precise comparison of the periods and ensure the overview captures both the long-term trends and the final reversal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and the information is generally relevant. However, progression is limited: the third paragraph repeats the 1918 starting figures already mentioned in the overview, while the final paragraph gives only a brief account of 1971 and 2011. Linking is also mechanical, particularly through repeated use of “while” and the formulaic transitions “A fleeting glance” and “Scrutinizing further.” Some sentence boundaries are unclear, as in “increased year by year.In 2001,” which affects readability. Organise the details chronologically without repeating points, and use clear links to show contrasts and changes between periods.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “percentage,” “accounted for,” “decreased,” and “reached,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or collocation problems make the description awkward: “reached at lowest,” “ends made up at,” and “maintained at same level” are not natural ways to report figures. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “highet,” “encreased,” “accomodation,” and “begain.” The phrase “A fleeting glance” is an unsuitable, overly figurative choice for an academic report. Use precise verbs such as “stood at,” “fell to,” and “peaked at,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a relative clause in “which decreased till 2001.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “households in rented accommodation was” has subject–verb disagreement, while “rented accommodation reached at lowest” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. Articles and prepositions are often missing, as in “at same level,” and the overview’s “which decreased” has an unclear reference. Punctuation and spacing also need attention, especially the missing space after the full stop in “year.In.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete, clearly punctuated sentences before adding more complex structures.
