Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two categories and report a few relevant comparisons, including that ownership and renting were equal in 1971 and that ownership was equal in 1939 and 1953. However, the overview is unclear and includes important inaccuracies: ownership did not peak in 2001 and then fall; it rose to about 69% in 2001 before declining to 64% in 2011. Renting reached its lowest point in 2001, not its peak, and was highest in 1918. The response also does not clearly summarise the main long-term pattern: ownership generally increased while renting generally decreased, with the two meeting in 1971 and a reversal by 2011. Focus on accurate overall trends and select a few supporting figures rather than repeating vague comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts to organise information with an introduction, an overview and comparison paragraphs. It also uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Whereas” and “In contrast.” However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph repeats earlier claims about peaks and low points without establishing a clear comparison. References such as “it,” “these” and “one householding percentage” make it hard to tell which year or category is meant. Build a clearer sequence: introduce the chart, summarise the main trends, then compare the earlier and later years using explicit references to ownership and renting. Avoid repeating the same point in different wording.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “owning,” “renting,” “equal” and “peaked,” so the reader can recognise the subject of the report. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unclear. Phrases such as “householding percentages,” “instant equal” and “was dropped it 2001” do not express the intended comparisons naturally. “Accomodation” is also misspelled repeatedly. Use precise chart language and vary the verbs for trends, while checking spelling and collocations. For example, describe a figure as “rose to” or “fell to,” and use “the proportion of households” rather than “householding percentage.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few different sentence patterns, including contrast clauses beginning with “While” and “Whereas,” but control is limited and errors frequently make the relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “it is clear that households and in owning and renting,” “percentage is dropped it 1918,” and “owning percentage instant equal in 1939 and 1953.” These contain problems with sentence structure, verb forms and prepositions. Some clauses are also left incomplete or joined awkwardly, as in “While renting accomodation is dropped it 2001 however peaked it 1918.” Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, using past-tense forms such as “ownership rose” and “renting fell,” and check articles and prepositions in each comparison.
