Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the broad shift from renting to owning and the equal 50% shares in 1971. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “rented accommodation was least and rented accommodation was highest” does not explain the overall pattern, and the final sentence reverses the 2011 figures, giving renting as 62% and then 34% rather than about 36% renting and 64% owning. There is also a date error: “1913” should be 1939. Some comparisons are reported, but the response mainly lists figures and does not clearly summarise the key trends, including the peak in ownership in 2001 followed by a decline. State the overall pattern accurately, then select and compare the most important stages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate paragraphs and generally moves through the years in chronological order, which gives it some basic organisation. However, the progression is weakened by a list-like sequence of figures and an overview placed at the end that is difficult to follow. Phrases such as “In 2001 rented and owned accommodation was same as 1991 accommodation” do not make clear which values are being compared, while “these all was rented and owned accommodation” adds little connection between ideas. The repeated use of “In [year]” also makes the linking mechanical. Organise the report into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trend, and one or two paragraphs grouping the data into meaningful periods; use precise references such as “the ownership rate” to make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary such as “percentage,” “households,” “owned accommodation” and “rented accommodation,” so the subject is usually recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or spelling problems reduce clarity. “Household own occommodation” is not a natural phrase, and “goes higher from rented” does not express the comparison idiomatically. There are also spelling errors in “illistrates,” “wales,” “occommodation” and “leat.” Repeating “accommodation” and “same” frequently makes the report sound basic. Build a small set of accurate alternatives and comparison phrases—for example, “the proportion of households,” “remained unchanged,” and “overtook”—and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple past-tense reporting patterns, and the reader can often identify the intended year and figure. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and the range of sentence structures is limited. Examples include “household own accommodation of 22 percent,” which lacks a correctly formed verb, and “owned accommodation and rented accommodation was remain same,” where the verb forms and agreement are faulty. “In 1971 both owned and rented accommodation was same” also needs a clearer grammatical construction, such as “the proportions were equal.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including the lowercase start “these all” and missing spaces in “In1971.” Practise accurate past-tense clauses and subject–verb agreement, then combine related figures using controlled comparative sentences.
