Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You report the main direction of change: ownership rises from about 22% to a peak around 69%, while renting generally falls before turning upward by 2011. You also include figures across the years, and most are close to the chart. However, the response is mainly a year-by-year list rather than a clear summary of the most important features. It lacks a distinct overview highlighting the long-term shift from renting to ownership, the 1971 equal split, and the slight reversal after 2001. Some details are inaccurate: renting is about 68%, not 69%, in 1939, and ownership is about 64%, not 63%, in 2011. Select and group key stages, then state the overall pattern explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The years are presented in chronological order, so readers can follow the broad sequence, and repeated comparisons between ownership and renting help connect the two series. However, the response has no paragraphing or clear overall progression from an overview to supporting details. Repeated use of “But” and “It means” makes the linking mechanical, while several sentences simply repeat the same pattern of reporting two figures. Some references are unclear, such as “This rate remain same” and “their is a great change feel,” which interrupt the flow. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and grouped detail paragraphs, using links such as “by contrast,” “thereafter,” and “in the final period” selectively.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic comparison, with repeated use of “increased,” “decreased,” and “rate” to describe the trends. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, including “the rate of own house,” “great change feel,” and “people gradually moves toward rented houses.” Repetition of “people living in own houses” also makes the account less concise and less suited to describing chart data. Use terms such as “homeownership,” “rented accommodation,” “proportion,” and “share” to vary the wording, and choose trend verbs carefully. For example, the 2011 figures show a modest rise in renting, rather than people “moving toward” rented homes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple subject–verb patterns, and the intended comparisons can generally be understood. However, the range of structures is limited, and frequent errors affect accuracy. Examples include “This rate remain same,” “people livig … are 40%,” and “people gradually moves,” where verb forms or agreement are incorrect. There are also faulty constructions such as “the fact feel that” and “Means half of the people,” as well as inconsistent article use in phrases like “in own houses.” These errors recur across the response and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Practise accurate present-tense reporting and build a few controlled complex sentences using “while,” “whereas,” and “although.”
