Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the chart’s main movement from renting towards ownership and include several relevant figures, such as the equal 50% shares in 1971 and ownership reaching 69% in 2001. This gives the response a relevant overview and covers the broad trend. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the sentence about 1939 and 1953 gives “64%” and “22%,” which do not match the chart’s 32% ownership and 68% renting, and the final comparison says renting rose in 2011 without giving the correct figure of 36%. The overview also calls the pattern “fluctuations,” although the dominant feature is a long-term shift followed by a modest reversal. Select and report the key stages more precisely, especially the 2011 figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an overall sequence from the general trend to earlier and later years, and paragraph breaks provide some organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because information is repeated or placed in confusing order. For example, the overview introduces “64%” and “22%” alongside 1939 and 1953, then later discusses 1961 again before moving forward through the timeline. The final paragraph repeats the overview rather than adding a clear comparison. Linking words such as “Meanwhile,” “From 1961 onwards,” and “In contrast” are attempted, but some connections do not clearly express the relationship between the figures. Organise the body chronologically, group the two series together at each stage, and use references such as “this figure” only when their meaning is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “dominant,” “steady,” “peaks,” and “reversal,” which helps convey changes in the chart. However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “proportion” and “accommodations,” and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make parts harder to understand: “ranted” appears where “rented” is intended, while “personal accommodations” does not clearly describe household tenure. Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “ownerships of accommodations” and “rose upward.” Use precise chart language consistently—for example, “the share of households,” “owner-occupied homes,” and “rented accommodation”—and check spelling carefully, since repeated errors reduce clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts at both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “While rented housing was dominant…” and the comparison beginning “In contrast.” However, sentence control is weak: several clauses are incomplete or joined without clear punctuation, as in “While ranted housing was dominent in early 20th century .Owner accommodations becomes more common…” Verb forms and agreement are also inconsistent, for example “accommodations becomes” and “it increase,” while articles and sentence boundaries are often missing or misplaced. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships between years and figures difficult to follow. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, maintain past-tense reporting consistently, and proofread punctuation and agreement.
