Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the two categories and report several accurate figures, including the 1918 split, the equal 50% shares in 1971, and the 2001 and 2011 values. You also capture the broad movement towards ownership and the later fall in ownership. However, the overview largely repeats the introduction and does not clearly highlight the main pattern: ownership rose to a peak in 2001, while renting followed the reverse trend before turning upward in 2011. The account also omits useful stages such as the early plateau from 1939 to 1953 and the steady rise through 1991. Develop the overview around these key features and make the turning point in 2011 explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an opening statement to a summary and then to selected years. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow. However, the overview repeats the introduction almost word for word, and the sequence of details does not establish a clear progression across the full period. Phrases such as “It was increased the previous years” and “Percentage of household in rented accommodation was decreased the previous years” repeat ideas without clarifying which years are being compared. Group the early figures together, then describe the rise to the 2001 peak and the reversal by 2011. Use clearer links between these stages and avoid repeating the same trend statement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “owned accommodation,” and “rented accommodation,” so the topic remains clear. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “percentage of household” and “accommodation.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate, such as “the graph give the information” and “It was increased the previous years,” which make the description less natural. Spelling errors such as “accommadation” and inconsistent capitalisation of “Wales” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise trend language and vary the nouns and verbs used to describe changes, while checking spelling and standard forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to connect ideas using “and” and “in.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical errors occur in basic structures. For example, “The graph illustrate” and “the graph give” have subject–verb agreement errors, while “The percentage … was increased” uses an incorrect passive form for a trend. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent in “percentage of household.” These patterns limit the range and control of the writing. Practise accurate present-tense reporting verbs (“shows,” “rises,” “falls”) and past-tense forms for the chart period, then combine them into varied sentences with clear comparisons.
