Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad contrast between ownership and renting and include useful reference points, such as the equal 50% shares in 1971 and the approximate 2011 figures. However, several central trends are misreported, which substantially limits the accuracy of the summary. From 1981 to 2001, ownership rose from 60% to 69%, while renting fell from 40% to 31%; your response reverses these movements and gives figures of 79% and just above 30% for the wrong categories. The overview also says ownership became the most popular without noting that renting was more common in the early years. Report the main direction of change accurately and include the peak and slight reversal by 2011.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by details about early years, the midpoint, later years and 2011. Time markers such as “By the year of 1971” and “During the period of 1981 to 2001” help the reader follow the timeline. However, the progression is weakened by the inaccurate account of the 1981–2001 figures, and the final “Thus” does not clearly connect to the preceding comparison. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated contrast pattern “Meanwhile” and “In contrast.” Group the figures into clear early and later trends, and use transitions to show the actual relationship between the two series.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportions,” “representing,” “significant fall,” and “contrasting,” so the meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate for describing this chart. “Two different types of authority” does not describe owned and rented accommodation, while “lost a significant amount of ownership” confuses renting with ownership. Phrases such as “registered,” “half and half situation,” and “preferences” are also imprecise in this context. Spelling errors in “illusrates,” “percantage,” “accomodation,” and “prefernces” are noticeable. Use standard chart language such as “share,” “accounted for,” “rose,” and “declined,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast structure beginning “In contrast” and a time clause beginning “During the period.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical problems affect clarity. For example, “as the time passes by household in owned accommodation became” has an awkward tense and missing plural marking, and “both type of accommodation had half and half situation” lacks accurate agreement and article use. In “at just above of 30%,” the preposition pattern is faulty. The opening sentence also has an unclear grammatical relationship between “household” and “owned.” Aim for direct constructions such as “the percentage of households in owner-occupied homes rose,” and check articles, plurals and tense consistency.
