Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two accommodation types and cover the full period, with several relevant figures, including the 50% crossover in 1971 and the later rise in ownership. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major misreading: in 1918, ownership was about 23% and renting 77%, not ownership being higher; the figures of 21% and 18% in the first detail paragraph are also inaccurate. The statement that ownership increased and renting decreased “in both country” does not capture the overall pattern, especially the reversal between 2001 and 2011. To strengthen the response, give a concise, accurate overview of the long-term opposing trends and the 2011 change, then select key figures to support it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the data. It also generally moves forward through the years, and words such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help signal sequence. However, progression is weakened by repetitive year-by-year reporting and frequent, awkward transitions, including repeated sentence openings with “While”. Some links are inaccurate or incomplete, such as “While, in opposed in 2011”, which makes the comparison difficult to follow. Grouping the early period and the later rise and reversal into clearer stages, and using direct comparisons between ownership and renting, would make the organisation more coherent and cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “increased”, “decreased”, “rose” and “fell”, and the reader can usually identify the two categories being compared. However, the range is limited and several word-choice and spelling errors reduce precision: “rate” is repeatedly used where “percentage” or “proportion” is more suitable, while “drameticaly”, “approximtly” and “owened” are misspelled. Phrases such as “rate of owned house” and “fell down” are also unnatural in this context. Aim for accurate collocations such as “the proportion of households that owned their homes” and “ownership peaked”, and check spelling carefully. This would make the description clearer and more appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentence forms, for example, using “While” to introduce comparisons, and you include both past-tense descriptions and percentage figures. However, these structures are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “the percentage … were higher”, where the subject and verb do not agree, and “in opposed in 2011”, which does not form a grammatical comparison. Several sentences also lack clear sentence boundaries or punctuation, such as the long sequence beginning “The percentage of owened house…”. Use shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, maintain consistent past-tense reporting, and check agreement and punctuation. These changes would make your comparisons easier to understand.
