Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main contrast accurately: renting was more common at the start, ownership rose over time, and the two figures met at 50% in 1971. The key turning points are also reported, including the ownership peak around 2001 and the slight reversal by 2011. Most figures are close to the chart, though “in both cities” is inaccurate because the data cover England and Wales together, and the overview’s phrase “for the owned households was” leaves the comparison unfinished. The response addresses the task and selects relevant features, but some comparisons could be clearer and more fully developed. State explicitly that ownership overtook renting after 1971 and that the two categories move in opposite directions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of renting and ownership. This makes the information easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moving further” and “before increasing slightly” help signal changes over time. However, the overview is incomplete, so it does not provide a fully clear guide to the details that follow. Some linking is also mechanical or imprecise, and the repeated opening “At the beginning” in both detail paragraphs makes the progression feel formulaic. Improve cohesion by completing the overview and using clearer comparisons between the two series, for example, explaining when ownership catches up with and then exceeds renting.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “gradual decline,” and “dramatic increase,” which helps describe the trends. However, several spelling errors and awkward collocations reduce precision: “accomodations” is repeatedly misspelled, while “inverse ralation” and “owned least households in accomodations” are not natural ways to express the data. “In both cities” is also an inaccurate choice for a chart covering England and Wales as a combined area. The range is sufficient to communicate the main trends, but repeated use of “households” and “accommodations” and imprecise phrasing limit flexibility. Aim for standard terms such as “home ownership” and “rented households,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “Moving further, it saw gradual decline…” and the clause beginning “when just below 70%…”. However, grammatical control is uneven, and several errors make parts of the response difficult to interpret. For example, “At the beginning proportion of rented accommodations was highest and for the owned households was” is incomplete, while “It continued to rise untill 2001 when…” has faulty sentence boundaries and punctuation. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “saw gradual decline” and “people owned least households.” Use complete clauses, check that each pronoun has a clear reference, and punctuate introductory phrases consistently.
