Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two categories and include an overview, but the main features are often misreported, so the response only minimally fulfils the chart task. For example, rented accommodation did not reach its highest point in 1981: it was highest in 1918, at about 77%, then generally declined. The statement that owned accommodation decreased between 1981 and 2001 is also incorrect; it rose slightly, from about 60% to 69%. You do correctly note that the figures were equal in 1971 and that ownership peaked around 2001, but the overview should clearly describe the long-term rise in ownership and fall in renting, followed by the reversal by 2011. Select and report the key trends accurately rather than adding unclear claims.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts an overview followed by details, which gives it a basic structure. However, the information is not arranged coherently: the paragraph beginning “In the first category” discusses both ownership and renting, while the next paragraph repeats the same categories without a clear chronological or comparative progression. Some linking phrases, such as “In addition” and “In the second category,” signal connections, but they do not clarify how the figures relate. References such as “this year” and “same years” are also difficult to follow. Organise the body by time periods or by the two opposing trends, and use clear comparisons such as “while” or “by contrast” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to describing charts, including “Overall,” “highest,” “minimum,” and “category,” and you use terms for both accommodation types. However, the range is basic and often repetitive, and inaccurate word choices make several points hard to understand. Phrases such as “rented accommodate,” “owned hoess quality,” and “minimum consumed” do not express the intended data clearly; “rate” and “number” are also unsuitable when describing percentages of households. Spelling errors, including “Britian,” “accomodation,” and “quntaitiy,” further reduce clarity. Build a reliable set of chart terms—“proportion,” “share,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable”—and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You use a few different sentence openings and attempt longer comparisons, for example, “while the owned household hosting was a llittle hihgh in this year.” However, sentence structures are very limited overall, and frequent errors in articles, plurals, agreement, and sentence construction sometimes obscure meaning. Examples include “There are two types households menstions” and “the rented accommodate was highest rates.” The time relationships are also expressed unclearly in constructions such as “between 1981 to 2001.” Practise forming accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while” and “whereas.” Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past-tense forms to report the historical data.
