Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the chart’s two categories and report the broad movement: renting falls over time while ownership rises, then both reverse slightly in 2011. The figures you give are generally close to the chart, including about 22% ownership in 1918 and 68% in 2001. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: ownership was not “less used” throughout, since it reached parity with renting in 1971 and became the larger category thereafter. The description also skips important stages, such as the plateau from 1939 to 1953 and the peak in ownership in 2001. Your reference to the horizontal and vertical lines does not accurately describe the axes. A clearer overview and more selective comparisons would make the key features more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to details and then an overall statement. The contrast signalled by “On the other hand” helps connect the ownership figures with the rental trend, and the time sequence is mostly easy to follow. However, the opening spends space describing colours and axes rather than establishing the main comparison, and the overview comes last and repeats information without clearly summarising the turning point. Some linking is mechanical, particularly repeated “In 1918” and “In 2011,” while “Same as” does not form a clear connection. Grouping the figures into an early period, a rise to 2001, and the final reversal would create more purposeful progression and clearer referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “percentage,” “decreased,” “increased,” and “consistently,” so the reader can understand the general trends. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations sound unnatural, including “percentage rate,” “highly used rental accommodation,” and “households in owned accommodation.” “Presents” is also used where the chart “shows” or “represents” a category, and “ratio” is not the most precise term for these percentages. These word-choice and collocation problems make parts of the description less clear and less natural. Aim for standard data-reporting phrases such as “the proportion of households,” “home ownership,” and “the share of rented accommodation,” and use them consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, and the main trend can usually be understood. However, some sentence structures and grammatical forms are inaccurate. For example, “This bar chart compares how many households … in percentage rate” has an awkward clause structure, while “it's increased consistently upto 68%” uses an incorrect contraction and verb form. The phrase “within year passed” also lacks the grammatical elements needed to express time clearly. Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, and the opening description of the axes is not formed as a complete, clear sentence. Practise accurate comparative structures, such as “the proportion rose from … to …,” and check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries when editing.
