Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give a broad overview: ownership generally rises while renting falls, with a reversal in 2011. Several figures are also reported accurately, including renting at about 77% in 1918 and the two categories meeting at 50% in 1971. However, the response is incomplete: it ends mid-sentence at “when percentage of,” so the 2011 comparison is not explained, and the later figures for 1981, 1991 and 2001 are not reported. The claim that ownership rose sharply from 1918 to 1939 is not supported by a figure, and “equal percentage of adoption” is unclear. The response is 130 words, below the 150-word minimum. Add a complete account of the final years and select key figures to support the overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and time markers such as “To begin with,” “During 1939 - 1953,” and “In the last decades” help signal sequence. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, leaving the comparison unfinished. Some links are mechanical or unclear: “Whereas” begins a fragment after the overview, and “the latter” does not clearly identify which accommodation type it refers to. The account also jumps from 1953 to 1971 without explaining the intervening years or the later trend. Organise the details chronologically, use complete sentences, and make references explicit—for example, repeat “owned accommodation” rather than relying on “the latter.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “decreased,” “rose sharply,” “trend,” and “at par,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for describing this data. “Equal percentage of adoption” does not naturally describe the share of households, while “households in renting accommodation” is less precise than a standard chart phrase. “Similar pattern” is also vague when the figures and direction of change could be stated directly. There are repeated spelling errors in “accomodation,” and the unfinished final phrase further limits clarity. Build a more precise set of terms for ownership and renting, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some complex structures, such as “Overall, … except for the year 2011” and “During 1939 - 1953,” but control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors that make the meaning less clear. For example, “the households in owned accomodation has seen” has subject–verb disagreement, while “The households in owned accomodation also has seen” repeats this problem. “Given bar charts illustrates” has an incorrect article and verb form, and “from 1918 - 1939” is not a well-formed time expression in this sentence. The final sentence is incomplete, so its grammatical structure cannot be followed. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence construction, and proofread articles and verb forms.
