Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You report the figures for all nine years, and most match the chart, including the rise in ownership from 23% in 1918 to 69% in 2001 and the 2011 figures. However, the response mainly lists data rather than summarising the main features. It does not clearly state the overall pattern: ownership generally increased while renting declined, the two were equal in 1971, and both changed direction slightly by 2011. The final sentences repeat the topic instead of giving an overview or meaningful comparison. To strengthen the response, select the key trends and turning points, then support them with a few figures rather than presenting every year as a separate item.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The figures are presented in chronological order, so the reader can follow the sequence of years. However, the response is essentially one long list of repeated sentence patterns beginning with “During,” with no paragraphing or clear separation between an overview and supporting details. The final two sentences repeat information about what the graph shows rather than advancing the description. This makes the organisation mechanical and limits the sense of progression. Group the early and later trends into paragraphs, use a concise overview near the beginning, and connect comparisons—for example, explain how ownership overtook renting by 1971 and continued to rise afterwards.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to identify the two accommodation categories and report percentages, and the repeated terms are generally understandable. However, the range is limited: “houses,” “owned accommodation,” and “rented accommodation” recur throughout, while phrases such as “This graph tell us the history” are imprecise for describing a chart. There is also a spelling error in “rendted.” Use a wider set of accurate reporting expressions, such as “the proportion of households,” “home ownership,” “rental accommodation,” and “the chart illustrates.” These choices would make the account more concise and appropriate to an academic data summary without changing the meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates most figures through simple sentence patterns, but it shows limited structural variety and recurring errors. For example, “This graph tell us” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “between 1918 to 2011” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Several sentences omit articles or use awkward noun phrases, as in “68 % houses are in owned accommodation.” The repeated use of “During [year]” also restricts the range of sentence forms. Practise accurate overview sentences and comparisons using structures such as “Ownership rose from … to …, while renting fell,” and check agreement, articles, and prepositions when editing.
