Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main contrast and broad movement accurately: ownership rises from about 23% to a high around 2001, while renting generally falls, and you note the equal 50% point in 1971. These are relevant features and give the response a clear overview. The figures for 1918, 1953, 1971 and 1981 are broadly consistent with the chart. However, the overview is imprecise, and the final year, 2011, is omitted even though ownership falls to 64% and renting rises to 36%, an important reversal. The claim that renting was “in trend” is also unclear. To strengthen the response, describe the overall pattern more precisely and include the late-period change, while keeping the comparisons grounded in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and chronological details. Sequencing phrases such as “By 1953,” “by 1971,” and “by 2001” help readers follow the timeline, and the comparison at the midpoint is easy to identify. This coherent overall arrangement is a strength. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear, particularly “However by next decade,” and the overview’s “with the passage of time” does not clearly distinguish the long-term trend from the reversal in 2011. The final paragraph also ends without covering the last year. Use clearer transitions to group the early decline in renting, the crossover, and the later reversal, and ensure each paragraph develops one clear stage of the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “accommodation,” “demand,” “decreases,” and “increases,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “households owned and rented,” “were in trend,” and “a huge change is noticed.” Repetition of “owned,” “rented,” and “households” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors, including “begaining,” “alight,” and “housholds,” are noticeable and can distract the reader. Aim for accurate chart language such as “the proportion of households,” “rose steadily,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling and natural word combinations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “with the passage of time” and “which was 60% and 40% respectively.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence structures are faulty. For example, “The bar graph compares the percentage of households owned and rented” needs a grammatical link such as “households that owned or rented accommodation”; the opening sentence also joins two independent clauses with a comma. There are recurring problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms in “rented accommodation were,” “their is,” and “owned accommodations were at its peak.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, especially around sentence boundaries. Build shorter, accurate comparisons first, then add complex clauses once their grammar is secure.
