Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You report many of the ownership figures accurately, including the rise to 69% in 2001 and the fall to 64% in 2011. However, the opening figure is misassigned: 21% is given for 1981, when it should be about 60%; the 1918 ownership figure of 23% is omitted. The rented series also starts with a mislabelled year: 78% belongs to 1918, not 1981. More importantly, there is no clear overview identifying the broad shift from renting to owning, the crossover at 50% in 1971, or the slight reversal after 2001. The response is also four words below the 150-word minimum. Add a concise overview and check that each figure is attached to the correct year.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some basic organisation: it discusses owned accommodation first and rented accommodation second, and the years are generally presented in chronological order. This gives the reader a simple way to follow the two series. However, the repeated pattern “Next one is…” and “In [year] had…” makes the account list-like rather than a connected summary. There is also no overview paragraph to establish the main trend before the details, and the opening sentence repeats the task wording without adding information. Use a clear introduction, an overview, and grouped detail paragraphs; connect related changes with phrases such as “by contrast” or “while,” rather than repeating the same sentence frame.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant basic terms such as “percentage,” “owned accommodation,” and “rented accommodation,” so the topic is usually recognisable. However, the vocabulary is narrow and repetitive, with “owned house holders” and “owned accommodation” repeated throughout. Some combinations are unnatural or unclear, particularly “percentage of households owned” and “68% of accommodation who owned.” Use standard chart language and vary the verbs describing change, for example “the proportion of households owning their homes rose” and “the share renting fell.” More precise wording would also help distinguish households from householders and accommodation from the people living in it.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most of the response uses short, simple statements, and the reader can identify many of the figures despite the errors. However, sentence structures are very limited, and several clauses are incomplete or incorrectly formed: “In 1939 had 31% house holders” lacks a clear subject, while “Households had owned accommodation in 1918 to 2011” uses an unsuitable tense and construction. There are also problems with articles, prepositions, and punctuation, including inconsistent spacing around commas. Practise complete comparative sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “The proportion of households that owned their homes rose from 23% in 1918 to 50% in 1971.”
