Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s main contrast: renting is more common at the start, while ownership is higher by the end, and you report several figures accurately, including 1939, 1953 and 1971. However, the response only partially covers the data. The opening overview focuses on 1918 and 2011 rather than summarising the overall rise in ownership and fall in renting, including the peak in ownership around 2001 and the slight reversal by 2011. Some figures are also inaccurate: ownership in 1918 is written as “235,” and rented accommodation in 1961 is given as about 69% rather than 59%. The final comparison is unfinished, so the later years are not adequately reported. A concise overview and accurate coverage of the full period would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a paragraph of year-by-year details. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats the opening-versus-ending contrast, while the details move through the years without grouping the main trends. Linking phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Furthermore,” “However,” and “Additionaly” are repetitive or do not clearly express the relationship between the figures. The final sentence, “AT least but not last in 2001 i=owned accommodation was,” is incomplete and interrupts the flow. Grouping the early, middle and later years around the rise in ownership and corresponding fall in renting, and using fewer, more precise transitions, would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “owned accommodation” and “rented accommodation,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “households owned accommodation,” “near to 77%” and “the rented and owned households accommodation was same.” Spelling errors, including “Additionaly” and “acommodation,” also reduce accuracy. The phrase “almost 235” is especially unclear as a description of a percentage. Use standard chart language consistently—for example, “the proportion of households that owned their homes”—and choose precise verbs such as “rose,” “fell” and “remained stable” to describe the trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with linking expressions, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “The bar graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “In 1961 household owned accommodation 40%” lacks a complete grammatical structure. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “the rented and owned households accommodation was same.” The final clause is incomplete, leaving its meaning unclear. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “The proportion of owner-occupied households rose to 40% in 1961,” and check agreement, articles and punctuation before finishing.
