Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report its main pattern: renting was more common at the start, ownership generally rose, and the two figures met at 50% in 1971. You also include relevant comparisons and several supporting figures. Most values are close to the chart, including 78% versus about 77% for renting in 1918 and 21% versus about 23% for ownership; these are small differences. However, the overview says renting “fluctuated during later years,” which is imprecise: it declined for most of the period, then rose from 31% to 36% by 2011. The statement that ownership reached 69% “during next 20 years” is also unclear, as it reached about 68% in 1991 and 69% in 2001. Make the overview more precise and clarify the timeline.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-part structure: introduction, overview, and two paragraphs describing the figures. Its progression from the early years to the later period is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “After that year,” and “By the end” help signal comparisons and sequence. This gives the report a coherent overall arrangement. To make the progression more consistently clear, avoid vague references such as “During next 20 years” and “By reaching 2011”; name the years or period directly. The overview’s “Whereas” fragment also interrupts the flow, and “On the hand” is an incomplete linking phrase. More precise referencing and smoother connections would make cohesion less mechanical and support a stronger overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of chart-reporting vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “remained almost same.” These choices make the main trends understandable. However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems limit precision: “accomodation,” “sahre,” and “drammatically” are misspelled, while “fluctuated” does not accurately describe the mostly downward trend in renting. Some phrases are also unnatural or repetitive, such as “the proportion of rented accommodation was accounted for” and “particular time period.” Aim for accurate collocations and use a wider set of precise trend verbs. Proofreading spelling and choosing words that match the data will make the report clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the data remains understandable. For example, “In 2001, the proportion was 31%” is a clear, accurate sentence, while the contrast between ownership and renting is generally expressed successfully. However, some sentence structures and grammatical patterns are faulty. “Whereas, the proportion…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “the proportion … was accounted for 78%” uses an incorrect construction. Articles and prepositions are also missing or misplaced in phrases such as “During next 20 years” and “On the hand.” Check that contrast clauses are attached to complete sentences, and review article use and standard prepositional phrases. Greater control of these patterns would improve accuracy.
