Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two categories and the broad pattern that ownership rises while renting falls, and you attempt to compare figures across several years. However, the report is incomplete: it stops at “In 1971 both” and does not finish the comparison or cover the later years, when ownership peaks around 2001 before declining slightly in 2011. The opening also gives the period as 1981–2011, although the chart begins in 1918. Some figures are misreported: the first year is 1918, not 1981, and ownership in 1961 is about 41%, not 43%; the rented figure is about 59%, not 58%. The overview is vague, and the response is 23 words below the required minimum. Include a complete overview and report the main changes through 2011.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of details, and the contrast between ownership and renting gives the report a basic direction. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the account ends mid-sentence at “In 1971 both,” leaving the comparison unfinished and the later years unreported. The sequence of dates is also confusing: the introduction says 1981–2011, but the details then begin with 1981 and move back to 1939. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “on the other hand” and “inversely” are used, but they do not consistently clarify the relationships. Group the early and later periods logically, use accurate year references, and complete each sentence and paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “owned accommodation,” “rented accommodation,” “surge,” “decline” and “steady,” so the reader can recognise the topic and intended trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “households in owned by people,” “at its pick,” “was to much less” and “that affect rented accommodation drop.” Spelling errors, including “depects,” “ther,” “Initialy” and “owend,” also make the report less clear. Aim for precise, conventional descriptions of data, such as “the proportion of households,” “reached a peak” and “remained stable.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural collocations would make your meaning easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few different sentence forms, including an overview sentence beginning “Overall” and comparisons using “In 1939” and “In 1961.” However, control of sentence structure is weak, and errors frequently make relationships between figures difficult to understand. For example, “Initialy households in owend accomodation was to much less” has problems with agreement and sentence construction, while “In 1939 owend house was incerease by 8%” uses an incorrect verb form. The final fragment, “In 1971 both,” is incomplete, and punctuation is inconsistent, particularly around the 1961 comparison. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, accurate past-tense forms such as “increased,” and clear punctuation between comparisons.
