Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two categories and give a broad account of the main shift: ownership rises while renting falls, with both at 50% in 1971. However, the overview is unclear (“two areas households… the graphs are upwards and downwards”), and several details are inaccurate or incomplete. Ownership peaks at about 69% in 2001, then falls to 64% in 2011, so it is not “in the peak” in 2011; renting is about 36% in 2011, not 33%. The opening period is also described as a decline “next ten years,” although the next plotted year is 1939. The response is 138 words, below the 150-word minimum, and this limits the detail reported. Add a precise overview and check figures against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two paragraphs describing changes over time. It also uses time markers such as “In 1918,” “In 1981,” and “In 2011,” which help readers follow the chronology. However, progression is weakened by unclear or incomplete sentences, especially “Overall, two areas households England and Wales the graphs are upwards and downwards,” and by abrupt links such as “whereas” after a full stop. The account moves between renting and ownership within the same paragraph without consistently signalling the comparison. Organise the body into clearer stages and use linking phrases to show contrast and sequence, rather than relying mainly on year openings.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “accommodation,” “decline,” “rose,” and “dropped,” so the reader can recognise the topic and general trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, making some descriptions difficult to interpret. For example, “two areas households” and “in peak” are not natural expressions, while “rised” and “decreaes” show spelling or word-form problems. Repetition of “accommodation” and “percentage” also makes the report less precise. Build a small set of accurate chart-reporting phrases, such as “the proportion of households,” “reached a peak,” and “fell to,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences with time clauses, but control is inconsistent and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include the incomplete construction “Overall, two areas households England and Wales…,” the missing verb in “owned accommodation percentage [was] 60%,” and the faulty clause “while next ten years percentage decline about 10 percent.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing, as in “at peak in 2001” and “same level 50 percent.” Verb forms are not consistently controlled in “rised” and “dropped” descriptions. Use complete subject–verb sentences, keep past-tense reporting consistent, and check articles and prepositions. Short, accurate comparisons would be more effective than attempting complex clauses without secure structure.
