Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad comparison between ownership and renting and note the crossover at 1971, when both are at 50%. However, the account is incomplete and some trends are misreported: renting generally declined from 77% in 1918 to 50% in 1971, rather than following an “esclate trend,” while ownership rose over that period. You also say ownership was “on the top” in 2011, although it had fallen to 64% and remained above renting at 36%; the peak was 69% in 2001. The overview is unclear, and several key stages are not accurately described. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum. Add a clear overview and report the main rises, falls, and endpoint comparison accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs signalled by “To begin with” and “Secondly.” This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the sentence beginning “in year of 1918 and till 1961,” where the relationship between renting and ownership is unclear. The final paragraph also combines several changes without clearly separating the rise, plateau, and decline. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and “overall” introduces an overview that does not clearly summarise the chart. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details chronologically, with clear references to each series.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “rental,” “properties,” “ratio,” and “declined,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “least priority to buy,” “the rental accomodations followed the esclate trend,” and “the highly trend start.” Spelling errors such as “accomodations,” “esclate,” and “continous” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing data rather than phrases that sound translated. For example, use “the proportion of households renting” and “home ownership increased steadily.” This would make your comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a time clause beginning “After 1971,” and the reader can recover the general topic. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain faulty structures that make relationships hard to understand. For example, “there were very clearly noticed” lacks a clear grammatical subject, while “the ratio was stand on 50%” has an incorrect verb form. In “people were leaving the rental properties and move,” the verb forms do not match. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or awkward, as in “in year of 1918.” Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences and keeping tense forms consistent. Shorter, well-controlled sentences would help communicate the trends before you attempt more complex structures.
