Student answer (Band 5.5)
The chart above shows the percentage of household owned and rented accomodation in England and Wales between 1918 to 2011where Y-axis represents % of households and X-axis represents particular year where data are presented in two different shades.
At first there is major shift in the data between 1918 and 1949 where household in owned accomodation increases and occured similar decrease in household in rented accomodation.
In year between 1939 and 1953 there no such visible different so we can say that data are nearly constant.
In the year further 1953 upto 2001 household in owned accomodation increases in the same ratio with that increase the proportionate decrease occurs in the household in rented accomodation in between in year 2071 both met at the same place means both were equal.
But in 2011 from 2001 slightly breaking the trend household in owned accomodation decreases and in reverse household in rented accomodation increases.
At last in comparison between both index in the starting year in the graph hosehold in rented accomodation was very high comparing to household in rented accomodation but adjusting from 1918 to 2011 year by year now becomes exact opposite.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main opposing trends: ownership generally rises while renting falls, the two reach parity in 1971, and both move slightly in the opposite direction by 2011. However, the account is only partly accurate and developed. The opening refers to a shift from 1918 to “1949,” although the chart shows 1939, and later “2071” should be 1971. The final comparison also repeats “household in rented accommodation” where ownership is intended, making the conclusion unclear. Include a concise overview and support it with selected accurate figures—for example, ownership rises from about 23% to 69% by 2001, then falls to 64%, while renting follows the reverse pattern. This would make the key features clearer and more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a broadly chronological order, moving from the early years through the middle period to 2011, and separate paragraphs help distinguish stages. Some linking phrases, such as “But in 2011” and “At last,” signal transitions. However, progression is weakened by unclear or repetitive connections: “with that increase the proportionate decrease occurs” is difficult to follow, and the final comparison repeats earlier information without clearly summarising it. References such as “both met at the same place” are also imprecise. Organise the response into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two data-focused paragraphs. Use precise links such as “By contrast” and “After reaching a peak” to make relationships between figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportionate decrease,” “increases,” and “decreases,” so the reader can generally identify the trends being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “major shift in the data,” “visible different,” and “met at the same place.” Repetition of “household in owned accommodation” also makes the account less fluent. Spelling errors such as “accomodation” and “hosehold” are noticeable. Aim for standard expressions used to describe charts, and vary the terms for the two categories without changing their meaning. More accurate vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences to compare the two categories, but these are often faulty, and the range of sentence structures remains limited. For example, “In year between 1939 and 1953 there no such visible different” lacks a complete grammatical structure, while “household in owned accomodation increases and occured similar decrease” has problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms. Tense use also shifts between present and past, as in “increases” and “occured.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Build accuracy first with clear simple sentences, then add controlled comparisons using clauses such as “while” or “whereas.” Check articles, plural forms, and consistent tense when describing the chart.
