Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar graphs illustrates the percentage of household which are owned and rented in England and Wales. The bar graphs compares the data between the year 1918 to 2011. In 1981 there is a huge incilne in rented accomodation and in 2001 the graph has rose in owned accomodation.
In 1981 21% of households owned accomodation which rose to 75% of households rented the accomodation. Whereas in the year 1939 and 1953 the percentage of households remains similar in both condition. In the year there is a slight incline in owned accomodation and there is decline in rented accomodation. In the year 1971 the percentage of owned and rented remains same .
In the 1981 the percentage of owned accomodation rose to 60% and rented accomodation declined to 40%. Whereas in the year 1991 the percentage of owned accomodation goes at it highest among all the years and the rented decline as same. In 2011 owned accomodation again decreased and rented rose again

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two categories and include several relevant figures, such as the equal 50% shares in 1971 and the 60% owned/40% rented split in 1981. However, the response only partially reports the chart’s main features, and the overview is unclear or inaccurate: the opening claims a “huge incline in rented” in 1981, although renting had been declining, and the 2001 rise in ownership is not supported by the data (it changes only slightly from 1991). The 1918 figures are also misreported: ownership was about 23%, not 21%, while renting was about 77%, not 75%. Give a clear overview of the long-term shift from renting to ownership, then select accurate comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response is divided into paragraphs and generally moves through the years in chronological order, which gives it some basic organisation. However, there is no clear overall progression from an overview to well-grouped supporting details. The opening mixes general description with inaccurate claims, and the second paragraph contains unclear references such as “In the year” without specifying which year. Linking words such as “Whereas” are used, but the relationships between ideas are not always clear, and the repeated “In the year” pattern makes the account feel list-like. Organise the response into a concise overview followed by a chronological or trend-based comparison, and use clear year references to connect each detail.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “owned accommodation,” “rented accommodation,” “declined,” and “decreased,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or repetitive. “Huge incline” does not describe the chart’s trend in 1981, while “the graph has rose” and “goes at it highest” are awkward choices. Spelling errors such as “incilne” and “accomodation” are noticeable, and “both condition” is not a natural phrase for the two categories. Aim for precise trend language and vary your reporting verbs; accurate terms such as “share,” “proportion,” “peaked,” and “fell” would make comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, for example, “Whereas in the year 1939 and 1953…” and “In 2011 owned accommodation again decreased and rented rose again.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“The bar graphs illustrates”), and “which are owned and rented” is an unclear relative clause. Verb forms are also faulty in “the graph has rose,” while “the percentage … remains” does not agree with the past-time reporting context. Sentence fragments beginning with “Whereas” and inconsistent punctuation further weaken control. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete comparison sentences with clear subjects and verbs.
