Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main overall pattern: ownership generally rose while renting fell, and the two figures met at 50% in 1971. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear. Ownership peaked at about 69% in 2001, not 78%, and then fell to 64% in 2011; the rented share was about 31% in 2001 and rose to 36% in 2011. The statement that ownership “rose by 32%” in 1939 is also imprecise: it was about 32%, having increased from 23%. The response is under the required 150 words, with 134 words counted after excluding copied prompt wording. Add accurate comparisons and a little more detail to cover the chart more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing the figures, so the reader can follow its general purpose. The overview is useful, and time markers such as “In 1981” and “in 2011” help organise the account. However, the final paragraph combines several years and contains confusing sequencing: “ownership at its peak level by 78% before slightly decline at 2001 by 65%” makes the timing and comparison difficult to understand. Some linking words, including “Moreover,” “While” and “However,” are used mechanically or introduce incomplete sentences. Grouping the earlier and later periods more clearly, and using complete sentences with precise references, would make progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “ownership,” “rented properties,” “increased” and “decline,” which gives you a basic range for describing trends. Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, however: “ownership rose by 32%” should describe the share as reaching 32%, while “household accommodation rose by 60%” does not clearly identify the proportion of households owning their homes. Spelling errors such as “walves,” “remiand,” “houehold,” “accomodation” and “steadly” are noticeable and sometimes make reading less smooth. There is also repetition of “properties” and “ownership.” Practise accurate spelling and use standard trend collocations such as “the proportion of households that owned their homes” and “the rented share fell.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more connected sentence forms, and the overview communicates the broad contrast between ownership and renting. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “the two figure were equal” has a plural agreement error, and “ownership rose by 32% and rented decreased by 68%” lacks a clear grammatical structure for reporting the values. The fragment beginning “While in 1939” and the clause “In 1961 it remiand intact” also show problems with sentence construction and reference. Verb forms are inconsistent, as in “renting become” and “before slightly decline.” Focus on complete sentences, consistent past-tense reporting, and accurate subject–verb agreement.
