Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two accommodation types and describe the broad shift from renting towards ownership, with several relevant figures, such as ownership reaching about 69% in 2001 and renting falling to around 31%. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: renting was highest in 1918, but ownership was lowest then, not in 1981; in 1981 ownership was about 60%, its second-highest level. The statement that renting was close to 80% in 1981 misreads the chart, where it was about 40%. Some comparisons are also unclear or incomplete, and the response does not clearly summarise the crossover in 1971, when both stood at 50%. Focus the overview on the long-term trends and key turning point, then support it with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate discussion of renting and ownership. This gives the reader some organisation, and time markers such as “After that” help indicate sequence. However, progression is weakened by repeated or confusing links, including several uses of “Whereas” as sentence fragments and “Moreover, secondly highest,” which does not clearly connect the ideas. The renting paragraph also gives figures in a sequence without consistently explaining how they compare, while the ownership paragraph’s phrase “this reverse method years 1971 to 1918” makes the intended progression difficult to follow. Use clear topic sentences and organise each paragraph around a trend, with accurate comparisons and fewer mechanical connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “households,” “rented accommodation,” “owned accommodation,” and “percentage,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the meaning harder to follow. For example, “people prefer te rented accommodation” describes preference rather than the chart’s reported household proportions, and “second most highest percentage” is not a natural expression. There are also spelling errors such as “precentage,” “rentes,” and “accommodarion.” Use precise chart language such as “the proportion of households,” “accounted for,” and “rose/fell to,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and some basic comparisons are understandable, for example, “In 1981, mostly people prefer te rented accommodarion close to 80%.” However, sentence structures are often incomplete or faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “Overall, analysis shows that highest percentage…” and “Whereas, owned lowest percentage in 1981,” which lack the grammatical elements needed for complete sentences. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “in 1939 and 1953 has same percentage.” Practise complete subject–verb sentences and controlled comparative structures, such as “The proportion of rented households fell to 40% in 1981,” before attempting longer linked sentences.
