Student answer (Band 6.5)

Currently, it is believed that there are a lot of options available in every areas such as entertainment, education, work and others. I agree with the statement that mentions having too many choices because of the availability of options in everything ranging from various work opportunities to choose from, to the applications to use within those workplaces.

Firstly, people today have a lot of employment options, with work and roles available across different industries. Even within a single sector, and within the department in that sector considerable number of alternative job roles are available. For example, within finance industry itself, there are investment banking, corporate banking and such, and within those there are different department such as sales, social media and analysis. The situation is similar in the education industry as well, as students currently have options to pursue different majors namely English, Education, Technology, Finance and even multiple together in some cases.

In addition to that, even the sources of entertainment have many choices. People can choose to watch either soap operas, dramas, movies, either through their phones, laptops or via cinema halls. Furthermore, the globalization itself has widened the options, as evident by the fact that a person today in India can watch a show from the US in their own native language i.e. Hindi. This makes it evident that everyone today have the opportunity to explore different choices in every domain available.

To sum up, there are indeed a lot of choices to pick at the present. This is good in the sense that people can try different things and pick one that they feel most comfortable with. While it may be argue that significant amount of choices are only available to selective population and not all have the same privilege to choose from, in general areas such as selecting universi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that there are too many choices, providing examples from employment and entertainment. However, the essay is incomplete, as it cuts off mid-sentence in the final paragraph. While the position is clear and the ideas are relevant, the lack of a proper conclusion and the abrupt ending prevent the development of a fully rounded argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are fully explored and that the essay reaches a natural, complete conclusion. The current development is sufficient for a 6.0, as the main ideas are presented, but the incomplete nature of the text limits the overall task fulfilment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and an attempt at a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to that', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from employment to entertainment. However, the abrupt ending significantly impacts the coherence of the final section. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the conclusion effectively synthesises the arguments presented without being cut off.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'globalization', 'employment options', and 'industries'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive in places. There are minor errors in word choice, such as 'in every areas' (should be 'in every area') and 'within the department in that sector' (which is slightly awkward). To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'everyone today have' (should be 'has') and 'it may be argue' (should be 'it may be argued'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete final sentence is a major issue. The control of grammar is sufficient to communicate the message, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
