Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, many people consider that we have too many choices in our life. I disagree with this statement because many choices make our life more easy and comfortable. In this essay, I will explain my opinion with some example.

Firstly, having many choice help people to choose the best thing for their need and budget. In the past, people have only few choices for shopping, education and transport. But now, they can compare many products before buying it. This make people more happy because they can buy good quality things with low price. For example, if a person want to buy a mobile phone, he can compare different brands and choose the best one according to his budget.

Secondly, many choices also give people more Freedom in education and jobs. Students can choose different universities online courses and careers. This helps them in future and achieve their dream. For instance, I am preparing for IELTS and I can choose online classes, YouTube lessons or an English academy. This choices help me study in better way.

In my opinion, having many choices is very useful because people have more freedom to make decision. Although sometimes people become confuse, I think the advantages are more than disadvantages.

In conclusion, I disagree that nowadays people have too many choices. I believe that many choices help people to improve their life, make better decisions and achieve their goals. Choices acts also like a opportunity which works those time when you are in trouble and unconscious

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that there are 'too many' choices. The main ideas regarding consumer benefits and educational freedom are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited; the examples provided are brief and could be expanded to better illustrate the impact of these choices. The conclusion introduces new, slightly confusing ideas ('unconscious') that are not fully integrated into the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point is fully extended with detailed reasoning rather than just stating the benefit.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs with clear topic sentences. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'This choices' (should be 'These choices'). The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the final sentence of the essay is somewhat disconnected from the preceding argument, which slightly disrupts the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Common words like 'good', 'best', and 'many' are used repeatedly. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'make our life more easy' (should be 'easier') and 'unconscious' (which does not fit the context of the argument). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate a higher level of sophistication or flexibility in expressing complex ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('having many choice help', 'This make people', 'Choices acts') and pluralization ('This choices'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and ensuring that complex structures are formed accurately.
