Student answer (Band 6.5)

some people believe that nowadays we have excessive number of options for everything today which I largely agree. However, there are some things which we really do not have too may choices.

To start with, when anyone would say that we are living in world with full of choices, they are actually pointing towards the fact that number of products and services are available to us in too large number that confuse the people when they have to select one of them. Today, from perfume to clothes , mobile phone to sports game, there are hundred of brands, patterns, designs, price-range, modes ready to choose from. Even, a student with flooded with myraid options when they want to study further after completing their higher study. Same applies to travel, study abroad option, places for destination weddings, books to read and even for medical treatment.

However, it does not apply in every case that too many choices are available to a person. there are some products services or alternatives, which are very limited in number or even only single option available. This is especially in field of art where one particular piece of arts is unique. Moreover, rare substances, some technologies and surgical procedures are still unique for which it can not be said that there are too many choices.

To sum up, I can state that while I can clearly notice that we are living in the world which is full of choices, there are some areas, products or services for which not too many alternatives are available.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant examples. You have identified two sides of the argument: the abundance of consumer choices and the scarcity of options in specialized fields like art and medicine. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The examples provided, such as 'perfume to clothes' or 'surgical procedures', are listed rather than fully explored to explain the impact of these choices on society. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments, ensuring that your reasoning is more deeply connected to the prompt's premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To start with', 'However', and 'To sum up' to transition between ideas. While these are functional, the flow between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the general statement about consumerism and the specific examples could be smoother. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'Same applies to travel', where the subject is omitted. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement will enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'excessive', 'myriad', and 'unique'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the precision of your expression. For example, 'flooded with myraid options' should be 'flooded with a myriad of options', and 'in field of art' requires an article. The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on more precise collocations and ensuring correct article usage will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in world', 'in field of art'), pluralization ('hundred of brands'), and prepositions. Some sentences are also slightly awkward, such as 'when anyone would say that we are living in world with full of choices'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding articles and noun-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater precision.
