Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many people assert that in the present time, individuals have a large number of options in everything. I completely agree with this view as it is undeniable that we have too many choices in front of us, especially in terms of career and fashion.
The technological advancements has opened various career options for young individuals. For instance, students who graduate in the technical field has many career prospects such as, they can work as a software engineer, a hardware engineer, and an ethical hacker. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The introduction states a clear agreement, and the two body paragraphs provide relevant examples (IT careers and online fashion shopping) to support the argument. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; while the examples are relevant, they could be expanded further to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief but effectively summarizes the main point. To improve, ensure that the implications of having 'too many' choices are explored more deeply, rather than just listing the existence of these choices.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'As a result of', 'To expound', and 'Hence' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive markers to create a more natural, sophisticated connection between arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'globalization', 'technological advancements', and 'career prospects'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'in the present time' or 'have an access to'. To reach a higher band, the writer should incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a more flexible and sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'The technological advancements has' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'students who graduate in the technical field has' (subject-verb agreement error). Additionally, there are minor punctuation issues, such as unnecessary commas after 'such as'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction will improve the accuracy significantly.
