Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people say that there are choices now than before. I fully agree with that idea. This large number of options comes from trade that brings similar products from all over the world and from many factories competing to make the same type of product. Also better digital technology lets online shops show millions of products at once.
Global trade has caused many different products to appear in stores that serve the purpose. Many factories from countries around the world work to make similar products, which is why there are more choices. If you go to a store to buy a dining set you will see a range of them in one place. There will be dining sets made locally and also imported from countries, which gives you the chance to pick the one that suits you best.
Improvements in technology have also played a big role. If you look for a product online you will find online stores from different brands showing lots of different designs and quality. Social media and ads keep showing things all the time. For example when you search for a shirt on Google web many online stores will appear with sizes, colors and styles. Ralph Lauren and U.S Polo both make polo shirts. Let you choose between them.
In the end the idea that there are more choices for a single item now is definitely true. It is because of the growth in trade the competition between companies and the progress, in digital technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that there are too many choices today. You provide relevant reasons, such as global trade and digital technology. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention dining sets and shirts as examples, the analysis remains quite superficial. To reach a higher band, you should explore the implications of these choices—for instance, whether this abundance leads to 'choice paralysis' or consumer dissatisfaction. The position is clear throughout, but the ideas could be extended further to demonstrate a more sophisticated understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Also', 'For example', and 'In the end', which help the reader follow your argument. However, the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and referencing. For instance, the connection between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'global trade', 'digital technology', and 'imported'. However, the range is limited, and there is some repetition of basic words like 'products' and 'choices'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of 'big role', you could use 'significant impact'. There are no major spelling errors, but the vocabulary lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Some people say that there are choices now than before' (missing 'more') and 'Let you choose between them' (fragmented sentence). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor issues with comma usage. To achieve a higher score, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that your subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments are corrected.
