Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many individuals in this contemporary time believe that there are lots of opportunities to make decisions from, in my opinion I strongly agree to this statement.
In this present generation there’s a lot of opportunities to make decisions patterning what we want especially in the aspect of the meals or food we consume. Prior now, meals used to be static in several families , in the sense that, traditionally in the African culture, tea (mix of milk and Milo) and bread was always for breakfast and Eba (garri) and soup was always served as dinner but presently across the meals of the day food selection is now flexible which now include vegetables in all kinds of meals.
Secondly, in the terms of education, presently there is a wild range of tertiary institutions all over the county to make selection from, ranging from government universities, state colleges and private institutions that is presently available at discretion in relation to your financial capacity, proximity from home and other personal reasons which is individually unique to everyone. Unlike previous times where they were limited tertiary institutions due to the primitive times and poor governance from compromising leadership of the government. My grandfather gave me a story in the late 1990’s , about his tussle to gain admission into the university of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN)then, the struggle was because any individual who verbalizes contact or connections with the prestigious UNN or even claims aluta UNN is seen as an important personality to the society, even if it be a minor member like a Cleaner.
In addition, the introduction of information and communication technology has expanded the range of information and knowledge that man be accessible to, unlike in the past where information was limited to journals, newspapers or even at the hands of a town crier.
However, despite there being several choices to make a decision from, from the sense of education, food and even a sourced means of information there are still belief that we are highly limited to genuine connections that can make us better in the aspect of economic development.
In conclusion, in the is present times we have too many choices to select from in contrast to the primitive times.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant examples regarding food, education, and technology. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The paragraph on education is quite detailed, but the point about food is less analytical, focusing more on personal history than the broader implications of 'too many choices.' The final paragraph introduces a counter-argument that is not fully integrated or explored, which limits the depth of the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point directly links back to the core question of whether having 'too many' choices is positive or negative, rather than just describing the existence of those choices.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from food to education to technology. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Secondly,' 'In addition,' and 'However,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, although some sentences are quite long and convoluted, which occasionally makes the flow feel slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between sentences is more fluid and less reliant on simple sequence markers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'contemporary time,' 'primitive times,' and 'financial capacity.' However, there are several instances of awkward collocation and word choice, such as 'patterning what we want' (likely meaning 'regarding') and 'sourced means of information.' Some phrasing is repetitive, and the use of 'aluta' is a culturally specific term that may not be universally understood in an academic context. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding informal or non-standard phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'there is a wild range,' 'there are still belief') and prepositional usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some unnecessary commas and missing articles. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement errors and refining the use of articles and prepositions in complex sentences.
