Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 149 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the response remains superficial and lacks the depth required for an Academic Task 2 essay. While you have stated a clear position, the arguments regarding professions and entertainment are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. To improve, you must expand your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments and ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a full discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short, simple paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas together, making the writing feel somewhat disjointed. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To achieve a higher score, you should use a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to create a more logical flow between your arguments and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'lots of', 'different', and 'many'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. Phrases like 'development of sciences' and 'social applications' are functional but lack the precision expected at higher levels. To improve, focus on incorporating more academic vocabulary and precise collocations. Avoid overusing generic words and try to vary your language to express your ideas with more sophistication and nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many new professions has emerged') and article usage (e.g., 'take a example'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they are often punctuated incorrectly or contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement and article usage, before moving on to more complex grammatical structures.
