Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, people believe that we have access to wider range of products. We have so many choices in all field like clothing, entertainment, technology and other things. While some people think more options are some time overwhelming. But I largely disagree as the because variety of choices gives the quality of life to the people.

Firstly, having many choices is a good option as we can decide in which variety to choose the product. As there are the product categories based on price, color, style. We can choose any of the option which suits us the more variety can lead to better choice of the product. It can help us to find the better value for money product.

Moreover, increased choices encouraged the other competitors to give the better quality product as the people compare all quality and other things to get the best product. The food delivery apps like Zomato, Swiggy provide numerous restaurant option to order the food online as all the restaurant have different specialties and chefs best recipe the people can order the food from their favorite restaurant. However, large number of options can confuse the people to choose the better restaurant but it can be solve by comparing price and quality.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that modern people have large number of choices. However, some times it is difficult to find the best product but people get it by searching in the market as there is more competitors and good quality and we have freedom to choose any product.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that we have 'too many' choices. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention product variety and competition, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'value for money' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with a concrete example. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the implications of your arguments—perhaps discussing how choice empowers consumers or fosters innovation—rather than simply listing categories like 'clothing' or 'technology'. The conclusion restates your position but does not synthesize the main points effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as starting a sentence with 'But I largely disagree as the because...' which creates a fragmented flow. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, the transition between the benefits of competition and the mention of food delivery apps could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they connect ideas logically rather than just marking the start of a paragraph would improve your score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'competitors', 'specialties', and 'value for money'. However, the range is limited, and there is some repetition of basic words like 'product', 'choice', and 'better'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'give the quality of life' (should be 'improve the quality of life') and 'can be solve' (should be 'can be solved'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'increased choices encouraged' vs 'choices encourage'), article usage (e.g., 'in all field'), and sentence fragments (e.g., 'While some people think more options are some time overwhelming.'). The use of 'as the because' is a significant error that disrupts the sentence structure. To achieve a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and attempt to use a wider range of complex structures with more precision.
