Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that in this era we have too many choices. I strongly agree with that statement due to the advancement in technology we have wide range of choices in every field of life than in past. Like for the employment and also in education as well.

Let's discuss the employment, nowadays there are too many fields introduced in the market that we can choose our own where we have to go in comparison with the past. In past we do not have that much variation in job sector. People usually experience the traditional jobs in industrial sector and in agriculture and government sector. Whereas in the current situation we in the same domain we have multiple job opportunities. For example I am software engineer and in my domain there are separate frontend and backend developer, for designing we hire a separate resource and same for the tester and quality assurance. While in past there was a person who is performing al these task single handedly.

Moreover, education is also really advanced these days. There are different schools and colleges are running. Instead technology is so advanced for acquiring education we can even do not need to attend the classes we can only see recorded lectures on youtube and also can get help from the artificial intelligence chatbots like chatgpt and different ai modules. For instance, I do not have to commute to education center on daily basis. I can get trained at home using Artificial Intelligence and by recorded lecture.

In conclusion, I firmly agree with the statement that nowadays we have many choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant examples, such as the evolution of software development roles and the accessibility of online education. However, the development is somewhat limited. While the examples are relevant, the argument could be strengthened by discussing the potential downsides of having 'too many' choices, such as decision fatigue or anxiety, which would provide a more balanced and nuanced exploration of the topic. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, ensure that the implications of your arguments are explored more deeply rather than just listing examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific theme (employment and education). There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'in past' and 'nowadays'. The transition between sentences could be smoother; for instance, the link between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'frontend and backend developer' and 'quality assurance'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'in every field of life than in past' and 'performing al these task single handedly'. The repetition of basic words like 'advanced' and 'choices' suggests a need for a broader range of synonyms and more precise collocations to convey ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include missing articles ('in industrial sector'), incorrect verb tenses ('In past we do not have'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('There are different schools and colleges are running'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on consistent verb tense usage and the correct application of articles and prepositions.
