Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is undeniable that technology has spread its wings all over the world. In this regards, it is believed that in this modern era people have too many choices. I agree to a large extent with this notion due to many reasons which will be discussed in forthcoming fragments with logical conclusion.

To commence with, there are several points in favour of former statement. First and foremost is that, more career opportunities. To explain it, while today students have many options in doing their education in compare to past. Then the students were only having some opportunities for their future and they had to proceed with it but nowadays students have lot of options. For example, students have may options in medical line such as dentists , neurologists and many others. Secondly, Education material availability. To elaborate it, now students can access education material in many different ways as compare to past. In past education material was only available in library but now we can access it through our mobiles, computers and many other. In addition, more shopping opportunities. To clarify it, earlier in developing countries there were not all types of brands servicing and people have to buy them from foreign which was quiet expensive due to taxes but now they are available in developing countries also.

Moreover, despite of many positive outcomes there also few drawbacks of availability of many options. The prime one is that, confusion and stress nowadays. To write more, with lot lot of options people also have lots of stress and confusion choosing their favorite things as lots of good options already their. For example students have much confusion in choosing their stream after class 10th. As a result, it can be dangerous for one's health.

To conclude, there are many positive outcomes such as more career opportunities, more shopping opportunities. Yet some cons can also not be ignored at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of having many choices. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about career opportunities is listed but lacks a deep explanation of how this specifically relates to the 'too many choices' aspect. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each paragraph provides a more thorough analysis of the implications of the choices rather than just listing examples. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument needs improvement to move beyond a basic level of discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To write more' or 'In this regards'. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack smooth transitions between ideas, which occasionally disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is precise will help create a more cohesive and professional-sounding text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. However, there is a lack of variety and precision. You rely on simple phrasing and repeat words like 'opportunities' and 'options' frequently. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'medical line' instead of 'medical field' and 'servicing' instead of 'available'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and idiomatic expressions that are appropriate for an academic context, while paying closer attention to correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students have may options'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'in compare to past'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'despite of many positive outcomes'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your use of complex sentence structures will be beneficial.
