Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people have a lot of choices then people had in past whether it is about study or practical life. In this essay i will discuss this topic thoroughly and present my opinion on this topic.

It is true that now a days people have way too many choices in all fields of their life. For example, when we are free we have a lot of applications to spend our leisure time. While sitting at home we can watch movies and scroll reels which were not an option in past.

While sitting at home we can take lecture about any topic. After completing studies when a person goes in his practical life he sees a completely new world in front of him. He get so many of opportunities that he may get confused which one he should actually choose.

Here I would like to describe my own story when I had so many choices that I got confused that what should I do. It was right after my exams of Intermediate in Computer Science. The problem raised when I visited a university for admission in bachelors program. I went to university without consulting with anyone. After reaching there when met a teacher and asked about programs he suggested me almost fifty programs for whom I was eligible. At that time I was stunned after a few moments of critical thinking I reached the conclusion that I should s a senior teacher to help me and I did that. We had the conversation for more then an hour and finally reached the conclusion that Data Science will be best according to my nature.

After this experience I realized that nowadays we have way too many choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the abundance of choices in modern life. However, the response is somewhat limited in its development. While you provide a personal example regarding university selection, the discussion remains quite narrow and lacks a broader analysis of the implications of having 'too many choices' (e.g., decision fatigue or the paradox of choice). The position is clear, but the arguments could be extended further to explore why this is a positive or negative phenomenon. To improve, ensure you balance personal anecdotes with more general, analytical points to fully address the 'to what extent' aspect of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the personal anecdote and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt, such as the jump between the second and third paragraphs. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') to better connect your arguments and create a more cohesive narrative throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'a lot of' and 'get confused' are used frequently. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'take lecture' (should be 'attend lectures') and 'in his practical life' (should be 'in his professional life'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and avoid informal phrasing to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'choices then people had in past' (should be 'than people had in the past'), 'now a days' (should be 'nowadays'), and 'He get so many of opportunities' (should be 'He gets so many opportunities'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are persistent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
