Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays many individuals have a wide variety of choices in every aspect of their day-to-day lives. Some people argue that modern society offers too many choices in different areas of life. I strongly agree with this view because people nowadays have numerous choices in shopping, education, travel and many other aspects of life.

On the one hand, people have a much wider variety of choices when purchasing products and selecting educational opportunities. In the terms of education, students can select their favorite course from various universities. Moreover, they can select online or offline platforms to pursue their careers. When, it comes to shopping, consumers can select their product from various physical stores or online stores based on their interest. In addition, customers can choose from different brands, colours and even they can compare the prices of products. For example, when I bought a laptop recently, I compared several brands, colours and prices before choosing the one that suited my budget and requirements. Therefore, individuals are able to make decision that best suit their personal needs and interests.

On the other hand, people also enjoy greater freedom of choice in travel and employment. Travelers can choose from numerous destinations, transport modes and hotels depending on their budget and preference. Likewise, employees can select from different career paths, including government jobs, private companies. Furthermore, these opportunities allow people to choose lifestyles that match their goals and circumstances. Hnece, it is clear that modern society offers individuals with more choices than ever before.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that people nowadays have a wider range of choices in shopping, education, travel and employment, which enables them to make their own decision that suits their interest and personality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that there are too many choices. However, the task asks to what extent you agree, and the essay focuses almost exclusively on the existence of choices rather than the implications of having 'too many' (e.g., decision fatigue, anxiety, or paralysis). By simply listing areas where choices exist, the argument remains descriptive rather than analytical. To reach a higher band, you should explore the negative consequences of this abundance to justify the 'too many' aspect of the prompt. The position is clear, but the development of ideas lacks depth regarding the 'too many' premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different areas of life. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'In addition' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be more sophisticated. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the existence of choices and the argument that there are 'too many' could be more tightly managed to improve the overall progression of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pursue their careers,' 'circumstances,' and 'personal needs.' There is some repetition of basic words like 'select' and 'choose.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, there is a lack of less common or more precise lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of control. Spelling is generally accurate, and the word choice is appropriate for the context, though it does not yet show the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'In the terms of education' (should be 'In terms of education') and 'make decision' (should be 'make decisions'). Punctuation is generally fine, though there is an unnecessary comma in 'When, it comes to shopping.' While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures.
