Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays most of the people believe that we have too many choices. I am agree with the statement because we choice a lot of things in a day and after doing this we feel happy.

Firstly, I want to talk about those choices that we do in a day in the old days when a person feel boring and dullness he went to a farm and and gossip with friends and old people and they feel happy after doing this and then nowadays when a person feel bore and unhappy there are a lot of choices for getting out dullness like he play video games and he watch a different types of movie on his own mobile and LED for this purpose he use a lot of applications like Netflix or Google and he did not feel happy after doing this they go out with friends or family on different restaurants.

Secondly, I want to talk about some other choices that we choose in now a days for getting happy. In the old days most of the people who live in a villages they did not got a facilities and the old people was busy in their different tasks and they did not go out because they did not have facilities but nowadays every person have his own car or bike and when he feel boring he go out with his friends ant any time on his bike or car to the Northern areas for see a beauty of nature and this areas are very peaceful and beautiful. And in these days we have a lot of things for doing in a day like we change our daily routine and do some other activity.

To sum up, in this century we have a lot of options to make happy today we do many activities for getting out from stress and on the other hand in the past we had not a lot of options for doing some activity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a position, but the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While you argue that having more choices leads to happiness, the supporting arguments are underdeveloped and rely on simplistic comparisons between the past and present. The prompt asks to what extent you agree that we have 'too many' choices, but your essay focuses more on the 'variety' of choices rather than addressing the potential negative implications of having an excessive amount. To improve, ensure you directly address the 'too many' aspect—perhaps by discussing decision fatigue or the difficulty of choosing—rather than just listing activities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' is used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. Sentences often run on, and the lack of appropriate punctuation makes it difficult to distinguish between separate ideas. Referencing is also inconsistent, with pronouns like 'they' sometimes lacking a clear antecedent. Improving the use of linking words and varying sentence structure would significantly enhance the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic words like 'happy', 'choices', and 'things'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'getting out dullness' instead of 'alleviating boredom' or 'for see a beauty' instead of 'to appreciate the beauty'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same basic vocabulary throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every person have', 'old people was'), article usage, and verb tense consistency. The sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity, such as run-on sentences joined by 'and' without proper punctuation. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on mastering the use of articles and pluralization.
