Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 171 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. The essay does not clearly address the prompt regarding whether we have 'too many choices' in modern society. Instead, the writer focuses on personal anecdotes about business risks and clothing preferences, which are largely irrelevant to the broader societal implications of the topic. The position is inconsistent and difficult to follow, as the writer uses percentages to describe their agreement, which does not constitute a clear or well-developed argument. Consequently, the response is underdeveloped and fails to address the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. There is no clear introduction, body, or conclusion. The transition between ideas is abrupt and confusing, such as the sudden shift from business risks to clothing choices. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct points, and the text ends mid-sentence ('we ne'), which indicates a lack of control over the overall organization. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The progression of ideas is not evident, and the response feels like a collection of disjointed sentences rather than a coherent essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. The writer relies on simple words and struggles to express complex ideas accurately. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word usage, such as 'heird from the business' (likely meaning 'hurt' or 'harmed') and 'letting me take choices'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic in any depth. While the meaning is occasionally understandable, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word choice significantly limit the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and fragments. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example, 'each an everyone had their own choices' and 'i loss in this risk'. Punctuation is also problematic, with spaces missing after commas and periods. The writer attempts only simple sentence structures, and even these are often grammatically incorrect. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read and understand.
