Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing supporting examples. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, focusing heavily on e-commerce and technology without exploring other facets of the 'too many choices' argument, such as the psychological impact or the 'paradox of choice'. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response is sufficient in length and covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis remains at a surface level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'in a result' are used incorrectly and frequently, which disrupts the flow of ideas. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the lack of variety in linking words and the occasional awkward phrasing make the cohesion feel somewhat forced rather than natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. The student relies on basic terminology and makes several collocation errors, such as 'in a result' instead of 'as a result' and 'people are been being aware' which is grammatically and lexically awkward. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'e-commerce' and 'multinational companies', but the overall range is limited, and the repetition of simple structures hinders the ability to convey more complex ideas precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are significant issues with verb tense and auxiliary usage, such as 'people are been being aware' and 'individuals believes'. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
