Student answer (Band 5.5)

Our world is getting better day by day. These days we have numerous options to choose the ideal one as compared to few years back because of the development happened recently around us. That is why some individuals believe that we have so many options nowadays. I totally agree with the view and i am going to discuss the reasons behind this in this essay.

Scientific development and urbanization are the main reasons behind the reason of why we have so many options in todays world. Now, when we want to buy something we have so many options in the same budget so that we can explore different kinds of options and buy the one which one we like. But it was not that much easy before. Therefore, the technology is getting developed so fast and it made our life too much easier than before. For instance, AI is one of the most useful invention and it helps our day to day life so much. By the help of AI we can differentiate between many items and choose the correct one accurately.

Travelling has become more comfortable than before because now we have so many options such as bike, bus, train, plane and so on to go anywhere in a very short time. But my grandmother told me that in her early age she had to cover a long distance to go her parents house by horse which was very time consuming. Moreover, the lifestyle has been changed dramatically in recent years because of the choices we have right now.

Having multiple choices is a blessing for us these days. It made our life more easier than before and now we can choose between many options and differentiate which one is good for us.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention scientific development and travel as reasons for having more choices, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis. For instance, the mention of AI is quite vague and does not clearly link to the concept of 'too many choices' or the potential downsides of such abundance. To improve, you should explore the implications of having too many choices—such as decision fatigue or anxiety—rather than just listing examples of how life has become easier. The response is balanced but could benefit from more critical thinking to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'For instance', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive or forced. For example, the phrase 'the reason of why' is awkward and disrupts the flow. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between having choices and the ability to 'differentiate' is not fully articulated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'better', 'easier', and 'useful'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'development happened recently' (should be 'recent developments') and 'in her early age' (should be 'in her youth'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'consumerism', 'abundance', 'decision-making processes', or 'technological advancements'. Avoiding repetitive phrases like 'so many options' will also help demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, article usage, and awkward phrasing, such as 'the development happened recently around us' and 'it made our life too much easier'. There are also minor punctuation and capitalization errors, such as the lowercase 'i' when referring to yourself. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of complex sentence construction to achieve a higher score.
