Student answer (Band 5.5)

Certain group of individuals think that nowadays we have too many choices or opportunities . I completely agree with this statement .

In my opinion , in present time we have alot of options to explore different opportunities respective to education , technology , fashion , nature .

For instance , in past there were restricted options . There was no modern technology at that time . People found it very difficult to communicate with each other . There were no mobile phones or high tech gadgets because at that time , there were limited options . But today , Artificial intelligence has changed the global outlook . People can communicate with their family and friends through mobile phones regardless of the long distance . Artificial technology make education easy and it help students to take online courses at home . People can do online jobs remotely while sitting at home .

On the other hand , In the ancient time , people used to wear leaves to cover their body parts because there were no concept of clothing . For exaample , in today's modern world there are alot of fashion industries . People have a variety of clothes , different designs to wear .

Therefore , I disagree to some extent like ancient civilizations has alot of knowledge about the way of living . They made tall buildings . They made ancient designs . They have old methods of predicting future events .

In conclusion , although modern technology has changed the world and people have more options in today's era regarding everything but still ancient people have their own level of intelligence and they made incredible ancient civilizations that amazed people till this day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but lacks a consistent position. While you state you 'completely agree' in the introduction, the body paragraphs shift focus to comparing modern and ancient times, and the fourth paragraph explicitly states 'I disagree to some extent'. This creates a contradiction that confuses the reader. Furthermore, the argument regarding ancient civilizations is not clearly linked to the topic of 'having too many choices'. To improve, ensure your main ideas directly support your thesis throughout the essay and avoid introducing conflicting viewpoints that are not integrated into a balanced argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the discussion of modern technology and the sudden shift to ancient clothing and architecture feels disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'For instance' and 'On the other hand', they are sometimes used incorrectly or do not effectively bridge the ideas. The conclusion attempts to summarize, but it introduces a new focus on the intelligence of ancient people rather than synthesizing the arguments regarding the abundance of choices. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph builds on the previous one is essential.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'respective to education' and 'Artificial technology'. You rely on basic descriptors like 'alot of' and 'different', which limits the sophistication of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. For example, instead of 'alot of options', use 'a plethora of choices' or 'an extensive array of alternatives'. Spelling errors like 'exaample' should also be addressed through careful proofreading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Artificial technology make education easy'), missing articles (e.g., 'in past', 'there were no concept'), and punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly article usage and verb tense consistency, before attempting more complex structures.
